Quilting has a long tradition at Portland United Church. For many years women have come together on a regular basis to complete many quilts for themselves and others. All the money raised has been used for various projects enhancing the beauty and the work of our Church. The women (currently we number 14) meet every Wednesday morning to work on the quilts around the frames, sharing friendship, laughter and support. New quilters are always welcome - no experience necessary!
Current Quilting Projects
The design of the quilt portrays a library vignette which includes books, the Church and the crests and symbols relevant to our Faith. The symbolism helps to illustrate the vitality of Portland United Church through its faith and service in our Christian community, here and around the world. The names of members, past and present, and/or interested individuals are embroidered on the spine of the books. The cost of having a name placed on the spine of a book is $100.00, which supports refurbishing the stain glass windows.
